Askar Mamin meets with Director General of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin met with Director General - Chair of the Board of JSC Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov.

The parties discussed issues of strengthening cooperation in the field of railway transport and logistics both in a bilateral format and within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Prospects for the further development of JSC "United Transport and Logistics Company - Eurasian Railway Alliance" were considered. This integration project is aimed at providing transit container transportation services as part of regular trains on the China-Europe route through the territory of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus.

“Kazakhstan pays special attention to increasing its transport and logistics potential. Further development of railways, increasing the volume of trade and transit in the region are very important and priority tasks for us,” Mamin said.

In 2020, despite the pandemic, the volume of containerized cargo transportation on the China-Europe route in transit through the territory of Kazakhstan amounted to 517.5 thousand TEUs, which is 65% more than in 2019.

The volume of freight traffic between Kazakhstan and Russia in 2020 exceeded 85.6 million tons. For the first quarter of this year container traffic between the two countries increased by 57% compared to the same period in 2020.

Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar and Chair of the Board of JS NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Nurlan Sauranbayev took part in the meeting.
