Alikhan Smailov meets with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev

As part of his working visit to Uzbekistan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov met with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and held talks with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov.

During the meeting with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Prime Minister Smailov emphasized that the interaction of Kazakhstan with Uzbekistan is a vivid example of strategic partnership and alliance based on trust and mutual understanding.

“Your state visit to Kazakhstan in December last year gave a great impetus to the development of large-scale cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The governments of the two countries are working closely on the practical implementation of the agreements reached between you and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev. Particular attention was paid to the creation of a solid and sustainable economic platform for our allied relations,” Smailov said.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted the high dynamics of the development of bilateral cooperation.

Uzbekistan is the main trading partner of Kazakhstan in Central Asia. At the end of 2021, the volume of bilateral trade increased by 33% and amounted to $4.3 billion. In the coming years, it is planned to increase this figure to $5 billion and reach $10 billion in the medium term. About 3,000 joint ventures operate in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted the high dynamics of Kazakh-Uzbek cooperation in the field of engineering, light industry and other sectors of the processing sector. Five joint projects are being implemented in the automotive industry, the production of agricultural machinery and the textile industry. Seven projects are being worked out in the construction industry and mechanical engineering for about $365 million.

A mechanism of Special Representatives of the Presidents for trade and economic cooperation has been introduced between the countries. Work is underway to implement the project to create the Central Asia International Center for Industrial Cooperation on the border of the two countries.

During the talks between Smailov and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, a wide range of issues of further development of cooperation in trade, economic, investment, water and energy, transit and transport, construction, agriculture, textile, automotive, cultural, humanitarian and other fields were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to the water management in the Syrdarya river basin and to providing the southern regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan with irrigation water during the growing season.

As a result of the visit, a Roadmap was signed to intensify bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture in the medium term.

JSC NC Food Contract Corporation signed a framework contract with an Uzbek partner for the purchase of vegetables and potatoes from the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Representatives of the business circles of the two countries signed a number of commercial documents in the fields of mechanical engineering, agro-industrial complex and logistics for a total of $661 million.

As part of his trip to Tashkent, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan got acquainted with the work of the Technopark production zone for the production of industrial, technical, electronic, construction and household products.
