Government discusses border checkpoints modernization

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, held a meeting on modernization of the customs infrastructure of Kazakhstan.

The Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Daniyar Zhanalinov, reported that modernization and technical re-equipment of nine road, one rail border crossing points at the external border of EEU, and the Main Dispatching Office of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance in Nur-Sultan is currently underway.

The reconstruction is planned in two stages: Dostyk Auto, Dostyk Railway, Maykapchagay, Bakhty, Kolzhat, Tazhen, Kaplanbek, Temir Baba in 2022-2023; Atameken, Kazygurt and the Main Dispatching Office in 2023-2024.

As a result, the capacity of checkpoints will be increased up to 8 times, and the time of their passage will be reduced from 2 hours to 25 minutes. Besides, it is planned to realize measures on automation of business processes, centralization of customs control and minimization of corruption risks.

To date, all design and estimate documents have been developed. At the initial stage of construction for all facilities it is planned to approve schedules of work to monitor their quality and timely implementation.

Following the meeting, Alikhan Smailov instructed the Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry to work out the issue of increasing the capacity of communication channels at the modernized points.

"Due to an increase in trade turnover through these points, we will have additional revenues to the budget. At the same time I want to draw attention to the need to accelerate the implementation of this project," the Prime Minister said.
