Alikhan Smailov meets with Vice President of ArcelorMittal

Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov held a meeting with Vijay Goyal, Vice President of ArcelorMittal, on Friday, Dec. 9.

Alikhan Smailov expressed serious concerns about the safety situation at ArcelorMittal Temirtau (AMT).

In turn, Vijay Goyal expressed his sincere condolences for the tragic incidents leading to the loss of life and acknowledged AMT's responsibility to ensure the safety of its employees. He reiterated ArcelorMittal's determination to continue working to improve workplace safety and pledged the company's full support to the families of the victims.

Vijay Goyal also stressed that the management of AMT was ready to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigations of the Attorney General's Office.

Following the meeting the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan and AMT signed a memorandum in accordance with which the Kazakh side will engage international experts to assess the activities of the company.

At the same time, during the evaluation period AMT undertakes to maintain production volumes, employment and wages at the enterprise.
