Today in the run-up to the XI Astana Economic Forum, Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with the Chairman of the Board of DP World, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.

During the meeting, issues of cooperation with the company and implementation of joint investment projects in modernization and development of the transport and logistics system, improvement of Kazakhstan's transport infrastructure management, as well as integration of information systems of Khorgos and Aktau for the integration of Kazakh terminals into the global logistics chain on the 6 continents of the world were discussed.

As is known, in order to develop the transit potential of our country as a logistics hub of the New Silk Road, as well as increase the volume of transportation of consumer goods of constant demand, a network of efficient transit transcontinental corridors and routes through Kazakhstan has been formed. Since 2015, the Nurly Zhol State Program for Infrastructure Development has been implemented. Under the Program, the reconstruction of roads, construction of railway lines, formation of western gates for cargo flows through sea ports, airports modernization have been taking place; dry port in the southeast of the country functions successfully and the basis of modern logistic system of Kazakhstan is under creation.

Dubai Port World's advanced technologies and expertise are already applied in the management of special economic zones of Khorgos-East Gate and Aktau Sea Port. Implementation of the agreements reached in March this year during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev to the United Arab Emirates (selling of up to 51% stake in JSC “UK SEZ “Khorgos-East Gate” and 49% in SEZ "Aktau Sea Port”) will allow Dubai Port World to expand the company's presence in the Kazakhstan market.

As part of the automation of the Khorgos-East Gate SEZ, a Single Information System “Nomad" has been developed, which provided automation of business processes and reduced the time of examination procedures from 24 hours to 30 minutes.

The agreement signed with Dubai Trade envisages the integration of Nomad with the Port Community Information System, which unites international participants in the supply chain and is represented in 77 terminals in 6 continents of the world (ports, terminals, customers, shipping and transportation companies).

It is necessary to recall that DP World is a strategic partner of Kazakhstan in many joint investment projects, including the Khorgos-East Gate SEZ and Aktau Sea Port SEZ. Cooperation in the implementation of joint projects is due to the effective administration and management of the Khorgos-East Gate SEZ and Aktau Sea Port SEZ, as well as their integration into the international logistics chain. This made it possible to apply DP World’s advanced technologies in transport logistics at the Khorgos-East Gate SEZ, as well as apply the experience of a successful operator of the Jebel Ali SEZ in operations of Aktau Sea Port SEZ.

The success of the company is largely the merit of Mr. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem. For 30 years he has achieved international expansion of DP World, including the acquisition of P&O Group worth $6.85 billion, resulting in the company’s obtaining of the status of the leading global sea port operator.

For reference: DP World operates 78 terminals in 40 countries; Approximately 70 000 vessels a year are accepted; annual transhipment volume – 77 million TEU (2017); DP World is the operator of Jebel Ali port (134 square km, 77 berths and dry ports); more than 7000 companies from 120 countries of the world work in Jebel Ali SEZ.
