Kazakhstan ready to exchange experience with WHO in all directions – Alikhan Smailov

The issues of the further healthcare system development and international initiatives of Kazakhstan in the medical sphere were discussed by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, with the World Health Organization Regional Director for Europe, Hans Kluge.

The parties discussed the measures taken by the Government of Kazakhstan to improve the coverage and quality of medical services, the registration and export of domestic vaccines against coronavirus QazVac, insurance of professional responsibility of health workers, strengthening their status and social protection, as well as holding the 73rd session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe in Astana in 2023.

The Prime Minister stressed that Kazakhstan fully supports the WHO's work to improve national healthcare systems, and appreciates the Organization's contribution to effectively overcoming the coronavirus pandemic.

"We are ready to continue our cooperation and exchange experience in all priority areas," Alikhan Smailov said.

According to him, the Government will continue to increase gradually the salaries of health workers, upgrade the medical infrastructure, including in the rural areas, strengthen specialized education and expand funding for research in the coming years.

Hans Kluge said that the WHO supports Kazakhstan's priorities in the healthcare sphere, in particular, in expanding the access of the population to medical services and ensuring social wellbeing of the workers of this sphere.

"We consider steps on increase of financing of healthcare systems and social medical insurance to be right. This is a big step forward. We hope that this experience will be useful for Kazakhstan for further development of the sphere," Hans Kluge said.
