Prime Minister Askar Mamin instructs to strengthen measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus

At the Government session chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in Kazakhstan were considered.

Minister of Healthcare Yelzhan Birtanov and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mukhtar Tleuberdi, Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Berik Kamaliev, Deputy Prime Minister Yeraly Tugzhanov reported on the current situation and ongoing work.

Since Jan. 6, 2020, the Ministry of Healthcare have implemented three stages of reinforcement to prevent the importation and spread of coronavirus infection. Since March 1, 2020, the 4th strengthening stage has been introduced, expanding the list of countries to which quarantine measures are applied to arrivals.

In order to take comprehensive measures to protect the health of citizens, the Government has developed an Algorithm of actions for the detection and spread of coronavirus infection in the Republic of Kazakhstan (“Plan B”).

“The Head of State Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev instructed the Government to strengthen measures to protect the population from coronavirus infection. The situation in the world has worsened. The virus has already affected more than 50 countries and continues to spread very actively. There are currently no coronavirus infected in Kazakhstan. Therefore, it is necessary to continue all preventive measures. The virus also has a negative impact on the global economy, in particular, industry, transit, trade and export. In this regard, it is necessary to take appropriate measures to ensure stability of the economy of Kazakhstan,” Mamin said.

The head of government instructed the Ministry of Healthcare to strengthen sanitary and epidemiological control at all border crossing points and ensure readiness for the implementation of measures planned in the Algorithm of Actions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to submit proposals for postponing major international events previously planned in the country, to suspend the issuance of transit, electronic, tourist visas for countries with an unfavorable situation for the spread of coronavirus infection.

“The Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development should restrict regular flights to countries where coronavirus is actively spreading. I also instruct you to ensure an increase in the production of medical masks and other protective equipment at our pharmaceutical enterprises,” said Mamin.

The prime minister instructed akimats of the regions to strengthen anti-epidemic measures in public and private organizations, especially in schools, educational institutions, public service centers, shopping centers, markets, etc.

“Akimats and the Ministry of Labor should suspend the issuance of permits to attract foreign labor for citizens from countries with unfavorable levels of coronavirus infection,” said Mamin.

The head of government instructed the Ministry of Information and Social Development, together with the Ministry of Healthcare, to carry out high-quality informational work with the population to explain measures for the prevention of coronavirus infection.
