Prime Minister Askar Mamin holds negotiations with leadership of large international corporations

Prime Minister Askar Mamin held bilateral meetings with the leaders of large global companies that arrived in Nur-Sultan to participate in the Astana Finance Days International Financial Forum and the Council of Foreign Investors.

In the course of the talks, issues of further development of investment cooperation in industrialization, engineering, oil and gas, energy, agriculture, pharmaceutical industry, financial sector were discussed.

Head of Government Askar Mamin and President of Exxon Mobil Production Company Neil W. Duffin discussed the progress of joint projects and stressed the importance of introducing new high-tech solutions. Modernization of production, as emphasized by the parties, will increase productivity and improve working conditions at enterprises, will provide an additional impetus for increasing oil production at the fields.

At a meeting with representatives of the American company General Electric headed by the board chairman, president, CEO of Baker Hughes, a General Electric group company, Lorenzo Simonelli, the issues of further development of investment cooperation were discussed. Considering the global trends in the transformation of the energy industry, the prospects for interaction in the field of renewable energy have been discussed. The company is also interested in the implementation of projects in the gas chemical industry, the healthcare system, civil aviation, including on the mechanism of public-private partnership.

Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Polish group of companies Polpharma Jerzy Starak, in turn, informed Askar Mamin about the current joint projects. The issues of implementing the investment program in the pharmaceutical industry of Kazakhstan, plans for the further modernization of the company's production sites, cooperation with Kazakhstan pharmaceutical companies were discussed.

Negotiations with the Vice Chairman of Marubeni Corporation Shigeru Yamazoe focused on the further development of cooperation in the agro-industrial complex, energy, and renewable energy. The parties stressed the great potential for expanding investment cooperation and confirmed the intention to intensify joint work. Marubeni's investments in projects implemented in the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to $750 million.

The issues of investment cooperation were discussed at the meeting with Chairman of the Turkish group of companies Anadolu, Tuncay Özilhan. The participants considered the course of the implementation of joint projects in the field of industrialization, including mechanical engineering. Along with this, the investor has expressed the initiative to participate in environmental protection projects, in particular, in the processing of secondary materials.

At a meeting with the Chairman of the Fung Group Victor Fung, topical issues of changing the global economy and trade market and the development of the financial sector were discussed. The parties considered the prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the management of global supply chains, including transit and logistics, as well as the agro-industrial complex.

During the conversation with, Global Head of Citigroup's Public Sector in the Corporate and Investment Banking Julie Monaco, Chairman of the Board of Citibank Kazakhstan Andrey Kurilin, a special attention was paid to the implementation of current investment projects and deepening further cooperation in financial policy and improving customs administration. In this direction, as noted by the parties, a special role is assigned to the AIFC Exchange.

“Kazakhstan uses all available opportunities to develop the country's economy and diversify its structure,” said Julie Monaco, noting that Citigroup supports Kazakhstan’s initiatives on organizing IPOs at the international and AIFC sites.

The development of the financial sector was also discussed at a meeting of the Prime Minister Askar Mamin with the Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe at Deutsche Bank AG Joerg Bongartz. The parties agreed on the importance of developing a system of exchange of experience in the provision of banking services to citizens. During the meetings, Askar Mamin noted that favorable conditions were created in the country for the work of investors and called on companies to implement new joint projects. The Government of Kazakhstan will provide the necessary assistance measures for the effective implementation of investment projects.
