Question of completing construction of LRT project to be considered at the meeting of State Commission for Capital’s Development — Zhenis Kassymbek

This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Zhenis Kassymbek at a press conference following a Government session on the execution of the Head of State’s instructions given July 15, 2019, at an extended meeting of the Government.

Kassymbek reported that the issue of completing the construction of a light rail transport project (LRT) in Nur-Sultan will be discussed at the meeting of the State Commission for the Capital’s Development on July 25, 2019.

“The project for the construction of an LRT system in Nur-Sultan has really dragged out and is being built not for the first year. The problem is that the funds from the first tranche of the loan allocated for the construction of LRT were in the liquidated Bank of Astana. Today, the Akimat of the capital, the National Bank of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Finance are taking measures to recover these funds,” Kassymbek said.

More than 80 billion tenge were frozen, therefore the construction of LRT has been temporarily suspended.

“We have the instruction from the president to complete this project, the akimat will present various options and mechanisms for the implementation of this project. We are considering the approximate project completion date — the end of 2020,” said Kassymbek.

According to him, experts say that the construction of LRT will significantly ease traffic in Nur-Sultan.

Today the city has more than 400 thousand road transports and more than 700 thousand passengers are transported daily.

In addition, the deputy prime minister informed about the pace of restoration of Arys in the Turkistan region.

“Today, all forces are mobilized to restore Arys: more than 250 construction companies are working, special equipment is involved, the necessary funds are allocated from the Government reserve, Turkistan and other regions and cities of republican significance,” Kassymbek said, noting that significant assistance is provided by large companies and other representatives of the business community.

Currently, more than 10 thousand workers are involved in the restoration of houses and social facilities in Arys, special attention is paid to the quality of construction work. It is planned to complete all the work within the specified time frame.

In addition to residential buildings, business facilities, social facilities: hospitals, schools, kindergartens, roads and other urban infrastructure will be restored and repaired.
