Saparkhan Omarov: According to results for five months, gross agricultural output increased by 2.2%

At a government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, Minister of Agriculture Saparkhan Omarov reported on the results of the country's agricultural development in January-May 2020.

According to the results in 5 months of this year, the gross agricultural output increased by 2.2% and amounted to 934.4 billion tenge.

“This growth was achieved due to an increase in livestock production by 2.3%, including meat in slaughter weight — by 3.5%, milk — by 3.2%. In the context of regions, rates higher than the republican were observed in Zhambyl, Karaganda, Akmola, West Kazakhstan, Aktobe, North Kazakhstan, Almaty and Turkistan regions,” the minister informed.

There is also an increase in the number of cattle by 4.1%, sheep by 2.8%, horses by 7.9%, camels by 4.4% and pigs by 1.5%. In crop production, to ensure the timely conduct of spring field work in 2020, all necessary measures have been taken and to date, sowing work has been fully completed.

According to the operational information of the regional akimats, the cultivated area increased by 237.7 thousand ha and amounted to 22.5 million ha.

So, the area under fodder crops was increased by 312.1 thousand ha, oilseeds — 184.7 thousand ha, melons — by 7.4 thousand ha, vegetables — by 3.9 thousand ha, potatoes — 2.5 thousand ha

“High-quality and timely measures to close moisture and presowing tillage contributed to the maximum destruction of weeds and the preservation of soil moisture. Sowing was also carried out in optimal terms, as a result of seedlings turned out to be friendly and complete. Farmers were timely provided with preferential fuels and lubricants, high-quality seeds, fertilizers, equipment,” Omarov said.

The next important event is phytosanitary protection of crops. To stimulate the acquisition of plant protection products this year, 37 billion tenge is provided, which will allow subsidizing 16.6 million liters of pesticides.

“According to Kazhydromet’s forecast, the average air temperature in June is expected to be around normal in the North Kazakhstan region, in the northern half of Kostanay, Akmola, Pavlodar regions, higher than normal by 1 °C in the middle and southern parts of Akmola region, most of Karaganda, East Kazakhstan regions, as well as in the southern half of Pavlodar and Kostanaiy regions,” the minister emphasized.

Precipitation in the above areas is expected to be near the norm, with the exception of the Karaganda region, where they are expected to be less than the norm. All these factors under favorable weather conditions and harvesting in the optimal time allow predicting a good harvest.

Food production over the specified period increased by 2.3% and amounted to 743.3 billion tenge. At the same time, sausage production increased by 20.5%, pasta — by 16.1%, butter — by 14.7%, cereals — by 13.5%, flour — by 6.6%, vegetable oil — by 5.3%, dairy products — 4.8%, cheese and cottage cheese — 4.7%.

Investments in fixed assets of agriculture increased by 14.3% and amounted to 145.1 billion tenge, food production — by 18.8% and amounted to 28.5 billion tenge.

Following the results of five months, positive dynamics were noted, while for the development of the industry, the government took all necessary measures to achieve the planned results.
