Over 11 million passengers served at airports of Kazakhstan for January-August 2019

Deputy Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development Aibek Alzhanov spoke about the development of domestic civil aviation in an interview with PrimeMinister.kz.

According to Alzhanov, in civil aviation there has been a steady increase in the industry’s main indicators — in terms of the number of passengers served at airports and passengers carried.

“We have an increase of about 24% in the number of passengers served at domestic airports. For example, in 2015 there were 12 million passengers; last year, about 15 million passengers were already served by our airports. This year for 8 months the number of passengers served at the airports of Kazakhstan amounted to 11 million 800 thousand passengers, which is higher than the figures for the same period last year,” the deputy chairman of the Committee informed.

Also, according to the results of 2018, the number of passengers carried increased 1.3 times. The total number of passengers carried over 8 months of this year amounted to 5.6 million people, which is 1.8% more than the same period last year. According to Alzhanov, growth is associated with the opening of new routes and the launch of new airlines.

As part of the implementation of the Address of the First President – Elbasy “Third Modernization of Kazakhstan: Global Competitiveness,” the number of transit passengers in 2018 amounted to 900 thousand people, which is 45% more than in 2017. For 8 months of 2019, the number of transit air passengers amounted to 642 thousand people. According to preliminary forecasts, the number of transit air passengers will amount to 1.6 million people.

In addition, the Nurly Zhol state program until 2025 provides for the construction and reconstruction of 16 airfields of local airlines (in Pavlodar region — Bayanaul, East Kazakhstan — Urjar, Zaysan, Ulken-Naryn, Almaty — Usharal, West Kazakhstan — Zhanibek, Sayhin , Kaztalovka, Atyrau — Qulsary, Miyaly, Suyundik, Karaganda — Karkaralinsk, Ulytau, Turkistan — Saryagash, Kostanay — Arkalyk, Aktobe — Shalkar).

Alzhanov noted that in recent years negotiations have been held with more than 30 countries on the creation and expansion of the regulatory framework, as well as on the resumption and opening of flights, including in priority areas.

In this year, letters were sent to a number of foreign airlines with a proposal to consider the possibility of opening direct flights. For example, letters were sent to American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines (United States of America), Cathay Pacific (Hong Kong), Alitalia (Italy), Iberia (Spain) and KLM (Netherlands).

The Civil Aviation Committee carried out active work in the framework of the Routes Silk Road-2019 Forum, which was held from July 15 to July 17, 2019, in Nur Sultan, to open new international air routes. Within the framework of the Forum, Memoranda of Understanding were signed with one of the largest airlines in China – China Eastern Airlines, as well as with the Chinese low-cost airline Urumqi Airlines.
