Vaccination coverage in Kazakhstan amounted to 64% — Alexey Tsoy

At the government session chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, the sanitary and epidemiological situation on the incidence of COVID-19 was considered. Minister of Healthcare Alexey Tsoy made a report on the current situation and measures taken to combat coronavirus infection in the country.

According to the minister, more than 480 thousand cases are registered in the world per day. More than 4.4 million people have died. The situation remains tense. In four of the six regions of WHO, since the second decade of July, there has been an upward trend in incidence.

"Over the past week, the largest increase in the incidence was noted in Azerbaijan, where over the week the incidence increased by 63%, in Japan 34% and in Israel — 33%," Tsoy informed.

In Kazakhstan, the growth, according to him, decreased by 7% over the week. In the world ranking per 1 million population, Kazakhstan is ranked 101st out of 222 in terms of morbidity and mortality.

As of Aug. 24, 748,851 patients were registered in Kazakhstan with a positive result of COVID-19 and 67,870 cases with CVI-. Like last week, all regions except for the Turkistan region are in the red zone.

“Over the past two weeks, there has been a gradual decrease in the number of cases of coronavirus infection in Kazakhstan. During this period, the incidence rate decreased by 10%,” Tsoy noted.

Since Aug. 1, the prevalence index of coronavirus infection in the Republic of Kazakhstan has decreased by 1.2 times from 1.11 to 0.93.

In hospitals, the employment of infectious beds is 49% today, and 46% of intensive care beds. Over the past two weeks, the workload of infectious beds has decreased by 12%. High occupancy of infectious beds is noted in the Aktobe region — 68%, in the city of Almaty — 61% and in the Almaty region — 59%.

Vaccination of the population continues. To date, according to the minister, 6.4 million people have been vaccinated with the 1st component, the coverage of the subject population was 64%, with the 2nd component, more than 5 million people were vaccinated with coverage of 50% of the subject population.

The largest coverage is noted in 9 regions: the cities of Shymkent, Almaty, Nur-Sultan, Turkistan, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda, Akmola and Atyrau regions.

As in the previous week, the lowest percentage of first-dose vaccination coverage is observed in Mangystau region, 38%.

In total, vaccination centers have about 1 million 400 thousand of the first component and 940 thousand of the second component. Deliveries are continuing according to schedule.

“The analysis of morbidity showed that the bulk of the sick and patients with severe CVI falls on the unvaccinated population,” Tsoy stated.

So, the proportion of unvaccinated sick people to the number of registered patients with CVI since February 1 is 97.5%, while only 2.5% of vaccinated citizens got sick. A similar situation, according to the minister, is developing with the severe course of CVI, where 95% of those in intensive care and artificial ventilation are also unvaccinated. The presented data once again clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of vaccination.

“In this regard, I would like to once again appeal to the population and urge citizens who have not yet been vaccinated to make the right decision in favor of vaccination. This will allow us all to preserve not only our health, but also the health of our relatives and colleagues,” Tsoy addressed the population.

As for the forecasts of the epidemiological situation for the coming months, according to the minister, under the pessimistic scenario, the average daily number of registered cases in September will be up to 6,300 cases, in October up to 2,400 cases.

According to a realistic scenario, up to 5,300 cases will be reported in September, and up to 1,800 cases in October.

“Under the optimistic scenario: in September up to 4,200 cases, in October — up to 1,300 cases per day,” Tsoy summed up.
