Alikhan Smailov and World Bank Regional Director discuss development reforms in Kazakhstan

The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, held a meeting with the World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia, Tatiana Proskuryakova.

The parties discussed the World Bank's support for the development reforms in Kazakhstan. As part of this work, a joint project with a list of specific steps has been prepared.

Thus, the implementation of the project provides for strengthening market competition in the telecommunications sector, improving the integrity of the digital sector and support for the development of the digital economy.

In addition, the measures are envisaged to improve competition and transparency in public procurement, improve the banking sector, strengthen anti-corruption measures, develop agglomerations, as well as more environmentally friendly and efficient energy production.

"In the current conditions this project is very important for Kazakhstan. It will provide support for the anti-crisis measures taken and the implementation of the new economic course of the country," Alikhan Smailov emphasized.

In turn, Tatyana Proskuryakova noted that the World Bank sees Kazakhstan as a reliable partner, so is ready to continue the mutually beneficial cooperation.

"We are interested in the Government of Kazakhstan to achieve its goals. I believe that we have great prospects in many areas," Tatiana Proskuryakova said.

Summing up the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of National Economy, together with the state agencies concerned, to intensify the harmonization of the reform matrix.
