Ministry of Agriculture: Main activities carried out to provide irrigation lands with water

This was announced by Vice Minister of Agriculture Yerlan Nysanbayev at the press conference in the Government.

As Nysanbaev noted, currently the water management organizations have carried out the main activities in order to ensure stable water supply for the irrigated lands of the country. In particular, all water facilities have appropriate amounts of water and their schedules have been approved jointly with interested parties, taking into account agricultural, environmental and energy needs.

“This year's forecast is not bad. Today we have a sufficient amount of savings on the Syr Darya, Shardara reservoir, Koksarai counter-regulator. Compared to 2018, we are moving along the Syr Darya river with a surplus of 900 million cubic meters,” the vice minister stressed.

In the Aral-Syrdarya basin, with a design volume of 5,200 million m³, the Shardara reservoir is now filled to 4,697 million m³ (last year the volume was 3,903 million m³), the volume of the Koksarai counter-regulator is 1,574 million m³, with a designed capacity of 3,000 million m³.

In the Balkhash-Alakol basin, all small and large reservoirs are filled to the appropriate volume to provide irrigation water during the season.

At the same time, according to Nysanbayev, at present, the work schedules of the Kirov and Orto-Tokoi reservoirs for the season of 2019 have been agreed with the Kyrgyz side.

“Chu and Talas are two main reservoirs located on the territory of Kyrgyzstan and on which the water supply of the lands of Zhambyl region depends. Last year, the Kyrgyz side gained enough volume, almost to the design mark. The main problem with water supply arises in the southern region of the country — Kyzylorda, Turkestan, Zhambyl regions. No problems are expected in these three regions this year,” Nysanbayev assured.

It was noted that work is also being carried out on the exchange of electricity with the Kyrgyz side to supply water to the Maktaaral and Zhetisay districts of the Turkestan region through the Dostyk canal.
