The Head of State participates in CSTO Collective Security Council session

The President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and the Organization's Acting Secretary General Valery Semerikov have attended the event, the press service of Akorda reports.

The Council members discussed the problems of international and regional security, the issues of interaction of the CSTO member states within the Organization and in the international arena.

Opening the meeting, the Head of State expressed his gratitude to all members of the Collective Security Council for personal participation in the session and spoke about the order of work.

The President of Kazakhstan noted that the meeting will sum up the results of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the CSTO in 2018, as well as will discuss the topical aspects of ensuring the collective security of the participating countries.

In addition, the Council members will exchange views on issues on the international agenda and further strengthen interaction within the CSTO.

The session will also highlight the priorities of Kyrgyzstan for the chairmanship in the next intersessional period.

The Head of State also participated in the CSTO Collective Security Council session in extended format.

During the meeting in the expanded format, the Head of State spoke about the obtained results during Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

"Kazakhstan considers the CSTO as a reputable and effective structure. With the active and comprehensive support of the Member States, Kazakhstan has successfully actualized its priorities in the chairmanship this year," Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

The President of Kazakhstan noted that on a planned basis in the military sphere, activities were completed to reform the CSTO joint headquarters and to prepare for the full functioning of the CSTO Crisis Response Centre.

In addition, the Head of State spoke about the findings of Combat Brotherhood-2018 exercises held in the Kyrgyz Republic.

"The Coordination Council for the Standardization of Weapons and Military Equipment was created at the meeting of the intergovernmental commission of the CSTO on military-technical cooperation," the President of Kazakhstan said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that during Kazakhstan’s chairmanship the initiative to adopt a universal code of conduct to achieve a world free of terrorism, approved by more than 70 countries, was implemented.

The Head of State has also said about the results of joint work on countering cyber threats and combating illicit drug trafficking.

In conclusion, the President of Kazakhstan informed about the decision taken on the legal consolidation of the status of the CSTO partner and the observer of the Organization.

Speaking to the media, the President of Kazakhstan noted the meeting’s friendly and constructive nature, and it took place as part of the CSTO Collective Security Council.

"We have considered almost all the issues of interaction between states in the interests of strengthening security. We have had a constructive exchange of views on the main directions of the CSTO development and the current problems of international and regional politics. We have summed up the results of fulfilling the priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the CSTO," the Head of State said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that the CSTO member states highly appreciated Kazakhstan’s activities as a chair of this international institution.

In addition, the President of Kazakhstan spoke about important decisions taken, aimed at further strengthening cooperation within the CSTO and improving mechanisms for ensuring collective security.

"The key political document of the CSTO Summit in Astana is the final Declaration, reflecting the objectives and plans of the Organization for the coming period. We have adopted a Statement On Coordinated Measures Regarding Participants of Armed Conflicts on the Side of International Terrorist Organizations. The work started on legalizing the status of the CSTO partner and the observer at the CSTO, begun by our Belarusian colleagues. And we have inked the required package of papers," the Head of State said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also said about the approved Action Plan on developing the system to combat illegal migration and the Action Plan on working out a coordinated information policy in favour of the CSTO countries.

In conclusion, the President of Kazakhstan informed the media about handing over the CSTO chairmanship to the Kyrgyz Republic for the next intersessional period. The Kazakh leader expressed confidence that the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic will be held at a high level and will make a significant contribution to the Organization’s further all-round development.
