Bakytzhan Sagintayev gets acquainted with development of transport and logistics potential of Mangistau region

Today, as part of the working trip to Mangistau region, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev got acquainted with the current state of development of transport and logistics potential of the region, visited enterprises, which are located in the FEZ “Sea Port of Aktau”, as well as got acquainted with the construction of the second stage of the Kuryk ferry complex.

The functioning of the ferry complex of the Kuryk port, together with the work of the seaport of Aktau has a fundamental importance for the development of the transport and logistics potential of both the Mangistau region and Kazakhstan as a whole. This infrastructure link in the logistics map of the country provides access to the countries of the Persian Gulf and the Caucasus, with access to Europe, which increases the attractiveness of Kazakhstan as a transit country for the implementation of cargo transportation.

Bakytzhan Sagintayev visited the ferry complex Kuryk, got acquainted with its current activities and the progress of construction of the second stage of the logistics facility. First deputy akim of the region, Suindik Aldashev, informed the Prime Minister about the further development of the transport and logistics potential of the whole region, taking into account the expansion of the ferry complex.

In December 2016, within the framework of the Industrialization Day, a railway ferry terminal with a capacity of 4 million tons was launched in the port of Kuryk. The terminal's operational activity was started on March 24 of this year, and by the end of 10 months, more than a million tons of cargo have been handled through this terminal, including oil products, chemical fertilizers, consumer goods, machinery and equipment, and other cargo. By the end of the year, it is planned to hand over 1.2 million tons of cargo.

This year, the second phase of the Kuryk port development has been launched ­– the construction of a car ferry terminal with a capacity of 2 million tons, which is planned to be completed in 2018. In general, because of the project implementation, by 2020, it is planned to increase the capacity of Kazakhstan's seaports to 26 million tons.

The Prime Minister also got acquainted with the progress of the reconstruction of the Port Kuryk-village of Kuryk road, as well as interior solutions of the Customs Clearance Area of the Mangystau recreational and infrastructure complex.

At the same time, the akimat of Mangistau region is working on the development of design estimates for the reconstruction of the Kuryk port-Kuryk regional road (from the Kuryk port to the republican highway Aktau-Kuryk). Currently, a road checkpoint has been designed in cooperation with the customs and border guard services. The facility will provide identification of vehicles, carrying of radiation and inspection control, measurement of weight and size indicators with separation of export and import flows.

In general, the provision of services for the passage of customs and other procedures in the customs clearance area will be carried out on the principle of "Single window".

The Prime Minister also visited ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Aktau, which is located in the free economic zone “Sea Port of Aktau”, where he inspected the progress of construction and assembling works of the welding and coating shop for steel oil and gas pipes.

Plant director, Zhenis Utegenov reported to Bakytzhan Sagintayev about the plant's current activities and its participation in the project of future expansion and management of wellhead pressure of the Tengiz field, where the company acts as a provider of services for Tengizchevroil LLP on corrosion protection coating, welding joint of oil and gas pipes, and transportation of finished product to the Tengiz field.

It should be noted that 17 projects have been commissioned in the territory of FEZ "Sea Prot of Aktau". At the implementation stage, there are 15 projects for a total of 355.623 billion tenge. Today, work continues on filling the territory of FEZ with high-tech export-oriented production facilities. For the entire period of functioning of the "Sea Port of Aktau", the volume of products produced by participating enterprises amounted to more than 241.2 billion tenge, and the number of created jobs exceeded a thousand.
