New station complex in Astana served more than 2.5 million passengers since its commissioning

At the briefing in the press center of the Government, Dmitry Potlov, Deputy Chairman of the Transport Committee of the Ministry for Investments and Development, told about the implementation of the Nurly Zhol state program in the sphere of water and railway transport development.

Within the framework of the Nurly Zhol program, in June of this year, a new railway station complex in Astana was put into operation. During its operation, 2.5 million passengers have already been serviced.

In the direction of the development of the railway infrastructure in November 2017, work was completed on the implementation of the second track construction project at the Almaty-Shu section, with a total length of 112.37 km. In general, the implementation of the project will increase the capacity of the site from 17 to 68 pairs of trains per day and reduce the time of trains by 1.5 times.

In the sphere of water transport, the second phase of construction of the ferry complex in the Kuryk port is under way. Today 759 people and 243 engineering units are involved in construction work. In December of this year, as part of the Industrialization Day, a test launch of the car ferry terminal in the port of Kuryk was carried out. The completion of the construction of Phase 2 facilities is scheduled for 2018.

"Due to the expansion of the seaport of Aktau and the construction of a ferry complex in the port of Kuryk, the capacity of the port infrastructure in the Caspian Sea will increase from 16.5 to 26 million tons," concluded Dmitry Potlov.
