Prime Minister of Kazakhstan B.Sagintayev and Kyrgyz President S.Jeenbekov discuss topical issues of trade and economic cooperation

Today in Astana a meeting was held between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Jeenbekov on the development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and strengthening of regional and cross-border cooperation.

Bakytzhan Sagintayev, taking this opportunity, congratulated Sooronbai Jeenbekov on his victory in the presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan.

During the meeting, the course of implementation of the agreements between the presidents of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, reached yesterday in Astana, as well as the implementation of activities within the framework of the Roadmap for bilateral economic cooperation was discussed.

Particular attention was paid to topical issues of trade and economic cooperation and the potential for its further increase. The meeting also noted the importance of strengthening regional and cross-border cooperation, including through the holding of the Kazakh-Kyrgyz Interregional Forum, the creation of the Business Council of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

For reference: In the current year, the volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan totaled $598 million, an increase of 13.3% compared to the same period in 2016.

At the present time, 10 operational activities of the Roadmap for bilateral economic cooperation have been implemented, 13 actions are envisaged before the end of this year. On the remaining points of the map, work continues, as they are of a long-term nature.
