Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov introduced the new chairman of the board, Kanat Sharlapayev, elected by the decision of the Board of Directors, to the staff of Baiterek National Managing Holding JSC.

The Head of Government thanked the former Chair of the Board of Baiterek NMH JSC Aidar Arifkhanov for his work as the head of the Holding.

Introducing the new head of the Holding, Kanat Sharlapayev, the Prime Minister noted his extensive managerial experience in one of the world's largest investment banks, City Bank.

“Baiterek is facing serious tasks. First of all, this is an increase in the availability and transparency of financing, assistance in the development of non-primary sectors of the economy, the agro-industrial complex and entrepreneurship. The Head of State pays great attention to these areas and expects the effective work of the Holding,” Smailov said.

Kanat Sharlapayev was born in 1981 in the Saratov region.

He graduated from the Saratov Socio-Economic University (Russia), Cranfield School of Management (UK).

He began his career in 2003 in the banking sector.

In 2006-2008, he worked in the financial department of the regional office, the project management department, the operational and technological department, the sales department of the City Investment Bank (Great Britain, Czech Republic).

In 2008-2014, he was Senior Analyst, Assistant Vice President, Vice President of the Regional Division for work on the equity market of City Investment Bank (London, UK).

In 2014-2015, he was Vice President of the Regional Strategic Planning and Analysis Group for Europe, the Middle East and Africa of the City Investment Bank (London, UK).

In 2015-2017, he was Chief Financial Officer, Deputy Chair of the Board, Senior Vice President of Citibank Kazakhstan.

In 2017-2020, he was Chief Financial Officer for Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, Senior Vice President of Citibank Russia.

From 2020 to the present, he has been the Regional Director for Strategy, Planning and Analysis in the Emerging Markets of Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe at City Investment Bank (UAE).
