Alikhan Smailov meets with Ambassador of China Zhang Xiao

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov met with the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhang Xiao.

Topical issues of bilateral cooperation in such areas as trade and economic, transport and logistics, agro-industrial complex, development of the green economy, digitalization, rational use of transboundary rivers, etc. were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to the prospects for increasing the supply of environmentally friendly agricultural products to China from Kazakhstan and border interaction.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to restore supply chains, modernize and ensure the uninterrupted operation of all road and rail checkpoints on the Kazakh-Chinese border, as well as the resumption of direct flights between Kazakhstan and China.

“The Head of State set a number of tasks to reset the economy of Kazakhstan and intensify trade and economic cooperation with major external partners, including China,” Smailov said.

Zhang Xiao noted that cooperation with Kazakhstan is one of the priorities in China's foreign policy. China remains a reliable partner and is ready to provide the Kazakh side with the necessary support and assistance.

China is one of the largest foreign trade and investment partners of Kazakhstan. For 11 months of 2021, the volume of bilateral trade amounted to more than $17 billion and grew by 13.6%.
