Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov took part in the mourning events held in Almaty in connection with the death of prominent statesman and public figure Berdibek Saparbayev.

Speaking at the official ceremony, Alikhan Smailov read out a letter of condolence from President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

"I express my deep condolences in connection with the passing of the outstanding statesman and public figure Berdibek Saparbayev. All these years, Berdibek Mashbekuly worked with honor at the most responsible sections of work and made a huge contribution to the political, economic, social and cultural development of the country and regions. He was able to implement the state policy with great competence, worked tirelessly for the prosperity of Kazakhstan. He was respected for his exceptional human qualities. The name and the bright image of Berdibek Mashbekuly will forever remain in the memory of the people," states the text of the letter of condolence of the Head of State.

In turn, the Prime Minister also expressed condolences from members of the Government and on his own behalf.

"Berdibek Mashbekuly with his work made a great contribution to the establishment and development of our country. No matter what position he held, he worked with all his might in the interests of the people. His heroic work and bright image will always remain in the memory of the people," Alikhan Smailov said.

To recap, the ceremony of farewell with Berdibek Saparbayev is taking place in the Kazakh National Theater of Opera and Ballet named after Abay in Almaty. Many state and public figures, members of the Government, akims of some regions, deputies of Parliament, representatives of culture, sports and other spheres came to say goodbye to the well-known compatriot today.

Over the years of his political career Berdibek Saparbayev headed a number of regions of the Republic by being the head of Akims of Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda, South Kazakhstan and Zhambyl regions. In addition, he was twice appointed Minister of Labor, Deputy Prime Minister.

Berdibek Mashbekuly repeatedly took into his own hands the solution of many problematic issues of the state level, always sensitively and attentively listened to the complaints voiced by the citizens of the country. With his responsible approach to work and sincere love for the homeland, he earned the respect not only of his colleagues, but also of many Kazakhstanis who did not know him personally.
