Alikhan Smailov: Kazakhstan ready to increase exports to Qatar by $243 million

On the margins of the third Qatar Economic Forum taking place in Doha, the meeting between Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani took place.

Alikhan Smailov conveyed to the Emir of Qatar sincere greetings and good wishes of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and also congratulated him on the successful holding of the World Football Championship, which attracted the attention of the entire world community.

The Prime Minister stressed that Qatar is an important political and economic partner of Kazakhstan in the Arab world. This is evidenced by the high rates of mutual trade and investment. Thus, only for the first quarter of this year, the volume of bilateral trade turnover increased 17.7 times, and the volume of the Qatar investments in the republic by 2022 increased by 3 times.

"At the same time, we see significant potential to further increase the volume of bilateral trade. In this regard, we proposed to increase exports of Kazakh products to Qatar in 60 commodity items worth about $243 million. We are also interested in further expansion of investment partnerships," Alikhan Smailov said.

In this context, he stressed the importance of cooperation between the state funds Qatar Investment Authority and Samruk-Kazyna and plans to create a joint private equity fund.

For his part, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani reaffirmed the readiness to increase bilateral cooperation in all priority areas.
