Kazakhstan plans to substantially increase production of marketable gas and electricity by 2029

The draft concepts for development of the fuel and energy complex and the electricity sector for 2023-2029 were considered at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov.

As Minister of Energy Bolat Akchulakov mentioned, within the framework of fuel-energy complex development it is planned to increase production of marketable gas (+25.5%) and rates of gasification of the republic (up to 63.4% in 2029), increase output of oil and gas chemical products (by 6.6 times), coal production (+3%) and decrease of energy intensity of economy (up to 5%).

In the power sector, it is planned to upgrade a number of existing and commission new generating capacities, which will provide an additional 11.7 GW of energy, as well as increase the share of electricity from renewable sources in total generation to 12.5%, reduce the wear and tear on power grids to 47% and complete the formation of a unified energy system of the country.

Major projects are set to be launched in the petrochemical industry, including plants to produce polyethylene (1.250 million tonnes annually), butadiene (319,000 tonnes), polypropylene (80,000 tonnes), etc. At the same time, it is planned to increase the level of oil production by expanding production capacities at Tengiz, Kashagan and Karachaganak and developing new promising projects.

At the same time, measures are planned for further digitalisation of the industry: automation of oil, gas and oil product turnover accounting, electricity generation and transmission; electronic issuing of technical conditions for connection; automation of tariff setting, etc.
