Bakytzhan Sagintayev wished our sportsmen successes and victories at the Olympics in Pyeongchang

Today at a meeting of the Government chaired by the Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, the Minister of Culture and Sports, Arystanbek Mukhamediuly, reported on preparations for the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The ХХІІІ Winter Olympic Games will be held in 9-25February 2018. Over 5000 athletes and officials from more than 80 countries are expected to attend.

There are 102 sets of medals for 15 sports (biathlon – 11, bobsleigh – 3, skeleton – 2, curling – 3, speed skating – 14, figure skating – 5, short track – 8, skiing – 11, Nordic combined – 3 , cross-country skiing – 12, ski jumping – 4, freestyle – 10, snowboard – 10, luge – 4, ice hockey – 2).

According to Arystanbek Mukhamediuly, for the upcoming Olympic Games, the national team has 57 licenses for 9 sports: biathlon – 10, short track – 12, speed skating – 12, cross-country skiing – 7, figure skating – 3, freestyle mogul – 4, freestyle acrobatics – 5, skiing – 2, ski jumping – 1, luge – 1.

"Compared with the winter Olympics held from 1994 to 2010, the Kazakh delegation to the Olympic Games in 2018 won the largest number of licenses," Arystanbek Mukhamediuly said.

In addition, the minister added that before the start of the Olympic Games, the national teams for winter sports were fully provided with training sessions and participation in licensing competitions.

The issues of providing athletes with quality equipment and outfit, which are an important factor in achieving high results, have been resolved. Also, special attention is paid to the timely and quality control and implementation of the necessary activities provided by the World Anti-Doping Agency WADA.

"The task before the Olympic delegation is to perform the results no worse than of the Olympic Games in Sochi," summarized Arystanbek Mukhamediuly.

The consideration of the issue was also made by the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee Daniyar Abulgazin.

Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev wished a good performance of the national team at the Olympic Games.

"There are a few days left, we will look forward to the opening of the Olympic Games and wish our athletes successes and victories. We will expect to return with medals," wished Bakytzhan Sagintayev.
