June 11 in Ukimet Uyi, Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to Kazakhstan Urs Schmid.
At the meeting, issues of further strengthening of trade and economic cooperation with Switzerland in the fields of energy, pharmaceuticals, education, transport and finance, as well as the implementation of a number of investment projects were discussed.
The Prime Minister also noted the significant transit-logistic potential of Switzerland. In terms of commodity turnover with Kazakhstan, Switzerland ranks 4th among European countries (after Italy, the Netherlands and France).
For reference: Diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Kazakhstan were established June 1, 1992.
In January-March 2018, trade turnover amounted to $562,987 thousand (exports —$531,266 thousand, imports — $31,721 thousand). In 2017, trade amounted to $3.2 billion (exports — $3.1 billion, imports $138 million), which is 21% more than in 2016.
The total inflow of direct investment from Switzerland to Kazakhstan during the period 2005-2017 amounted to $20,597.3 million.
The volume of direct investments from Kazakhstan to Switzerland for 2005-2017 amounted to $823 million.
Switzerland is one of six countries (after Russia, China, Italy, the Netherlands and France) which purchased about 63% of the total exports from Kazakhstan over the past 10 years.
