Bakytzhan Sagintayev was informed about measures taken to prevent flood threats

At the meeting of the Government of Kazakhstan chaired by the Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Kalmukhanbet Kassymov and the First Vice Minister of Agriculture, Kairat Aituganov reported on measures taken to prevent flood hazards.

The MIA RK monitors the execution of the Roadmap "A set of measures for the prevention and elimination of flood threats for 2017-2020". In total, 862 measures are envisaged in the Roadmap, including ensuring the protection of territories and settlements from the harmful effects of flood waters, the repair of hydraulic structures, and the development and modernization of the national hydrometeorological service.

In 2017, central and local executive bodies launched the implementation of 264 points of the Roadmap, of which 96 items will be completed by the end of this year.

The Roadmap entrusted the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the implementation of the event—the installation of additional verges at the site "Protection of the city of Astana from flooding by the Yesil River waters".

"Currently, as part of the planned financing, since September 10, 2017, work has begun on the creation of verges in two sections of a 2,5 km embankment, the volume of work performed is more than 80%," K. Kassymov noted.

In order to assist Kazhydromet in the flood period of the following year, it was decided to allocate in winter-spring period a transport of increased cross-country capacity for measurements in hard-to-access area.

In the flooding affected city of Petropavlovsk, at the expense of funds from the Government's reserve, the fencing embankment of the village of Kozhevenny is being reconstructed, with a total length of 3.1 km.

"To date, the volume of work performed is more than 80% and with the preservation of the pace of construction work will be completed this year by December 10," K. Kassymov reported.

As noted by the First Vice Minister of Agriculture, K. Aituganov, in order to prevent flood hazards, a flood control commission was set up in the Ministry of Agriculture, a schedule of duty was approved at all the republican reservoirs, and the basin inspectorates were instructed to complete a survey of the hydrotechnical facilities of the republican property for possible flood risks by November.

In the course of the meeting, reports by the akims of the Akmola region, M. Murzalin, the North Kazakhstan region, K. Aksakalov, the East Kazakhstan region, D. Akhmetov, the Karaganda region, Y. Koshanov, the Almaty region, A. Batalov, the South Kazakhstan region, Zh. Tuimebayev, the Kyzylorda region, K. Kusherbaev, Zhambyl region K. Kokrekbaev were heard.

Following the discussion, Bakytzhan Sagintayev instructed the First Deputy Prime Minister ,Askar Mamin to discuss in greater detail all the problems at the conference call with the heads of the regions. The Ministry of Finance assigned issues of timely allocation of funds on the Roadmap. Control over the implementation of the Roadmap for the prevention of flood risks was assigned to First Deputy Prime Minister, Askar Mamin.
