270 schools in Kazakhstan to undergo major repairs this year

During the plenary session of the Majilis of the Parliament, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Tamara Duisenova told about the ongoing work to strengthen the infrastructure of education and improve the quality of education in the country.

To date, the National Report "Quality education available to everyone" has been prepared.

"More than 200 thousand teachers, educators of higher and secondary educational institutions took part in the discussions of the document. One of the main theses: the sphere of education is not a set of separately taken objects, but a multilevel system of upbringing of young citizens, formed of mutually influencing each other results. Changes regarding these problems were considered at a recent Government session and introduced in the Concept of development of the education sector," Tamara Duisenova said.

A number of measures have been taken to eliminate the problem of emergency and three-shift schools. To this end, the construction of educational facilities is being carried out by financing from several sources. The construction of 369 schools is envisaged within the framework of the National Project "Comfortable School". Thirty-six educational facilities were built last year at the expense of confiscated and returned funds as part of the investigation of corruption offences, and 25 more will be commissioned this year.

"Under the programme "Auyl - Yel besigi" and at the expense of local budgets 7 schools were put into operation last year, this year it is planned to build 6 more objects. Another additional and actively realised direction is business investment. Last year 56 private educational institutions were launched. In general, the number of such schools today has reached 667. More than 250 thousand children study in them. The total amount of funds allocated from various sources for the construction of schools for 2 years is 2.4 trillion tenge," Tamara Duisenova said.

In addition to the construction of new facilities, the issue of repair of existing ones has not been neglected. This year 270 schools will be overhauled.

The role of supplementary education centres is important in the all-round development of children. Deputy Prime Minister noted that it was decided to open such institutions not only in big cities, but also in the regions. If 12 such facilities were opened last year, then in the next 3 years it is planned to build 89 more.

Tamara Duisenova also drew attention to the issues of providing children with summer active holidays.

"All regions have functioning headquarters. Admission of children was allowed only in camps that have passed fire safety, SES and special checks of citizens working with children. Since the beginning of the summer season, more than 2 million children have been covered with holidays in 121 seasonal camps, 9,638 school and special camps," Deputy Prime Minister said.
