24-hour situation centre of Ministry of Transport functioning to monitor flood situation assessment

Since the beginning of the flood period, 66 cases of overflow have been registered on the republican motorways. Now in 5 regions there are overflows on 5 roads with a length of 980 metres, in connection with which the restriction of traffic on 6 roads with a length of 410 km has been introduced. As the Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev noted, round-the-clock monitoring of flood-prone areas and road structures is carried out.

In order to prevent the destruction of road sections, measures are promptly taken to ensure unimpeded passage of melt water through existing culverts and bridges. In order to prevent flooding of settlements together with the Ministry of Education and Science, a forced road break is made for the passage of melt water in a large volume.

"On 28 March in the Aktobe region there was an erosion of the approach to the bridge over the Irgiz River on the section of the road Samara-Shymkent. During the day the passage of vehicles was restored and ensured. Also on 30 March in Karaganda region on the section of the road Bastau-Aktau-Temirtau opened the roadbed to prevent flooding of the settlement near Nura station. As the water level drops, the roadbed will be restored," the minister said.

Minor damage to the roadbed was registered on the sections of the Kandyagash-Emba road in Aktobe region and Kokshetau-Omsk in North Kazakhstan region, for which measures were promptly taken to eliminate them. To monitor the assessment of the flood situation, a 24-hour situation centre of the Ministry and dispatch service 1403 of the National Operator ‘KazAutoZhol’ are functioning.

Information and awareness raising work with the population is carried out on a permanent basis through the publication of relevant information on the current flood situation in social networks. All inert materials are available.

"Overflows are occurring in previously suspected areas that are currently being reconstructed or are scheduled for repair work. In order to reduce the number of flood-prone areas, as part of the reconstruction and repair of motorways, work is being carried out on additional artificial structures; increasing the diameter of culverts and their number; increasing the height of the embankment of the earth bed. First of all, emergency bridges will be repaired," the speaker emphasised.

On railways. The national company KTZ has formed 45 anti-scour trains. The Ministry for Emergency Situations checked the condition of 83 reservoirs and dams located above the railway bed. Melt water accumulation is observed along the main tracks of 5 regions. All suspected dangerous places are being monitored. In Aktobe and Karaganda oblasts on dangerous sections and bridges there is a restriction of train speed up to 25 km/hour. At present, there are no threats of washout for the railway track.
