Karashukeyev attends Ministerial Session of 5th General Assembly of IOFS

The Ministerial Session of the 5th IOFS General Assembly, held in Tunis, was attended by 33 out of 37 IOFS Member States and 41 OIC officials. The press service of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) informed about it.

The meeting was opened by Yerbol Karashukeyev, the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan. He passed the chairmanship to the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries of the Republic of Tunisia Mahmoud Eliez Hamza.

Following the meeting, Mr. Erlan Baidaulet, Director General of the IOFS, made a presentation about the general outcome of the Kazakh chairmanship as well as the achievements of the 16 IOFS strategic programmes. Also during the Ministerial Session of the 5th General Assembly of the IOFS a number of bilateral MoUs were signed to explore areas of mutual interest and strengthen cooperation with various partners, including the Arab Centre for Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), the National Institute for Agricultural Research in Tunis (INRAT), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Guinea and the Union of Trade, Industry and Crafts of Tunisia (UTICA). 

The meeting concluded with the adoption of the resolution of the 5th General Assembly, which included the following decisions: celebration of the OIC Food Security Day on 11 December, opening of the IOFS regional offices, expansion of close cooperation with civil society, transformation and development of the International Islamic Food Industry Association (IFPA), strengthening of cooperation on conservation and use of plant and animal genetic resources, which is part of the "Almaty Forum" Declaration.

Also on the sidelines of the event, the Director General of IOFS also participated in the 14th International Exhibition of Agricultural Investment and Technology (SIAT), held at the Kram Exhibition Centre in Tunis.
