The volume of freight transportation increased by 9.1% compared to the same period last year, Vice Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhanibek Taizhanov reported at the Government session.
He noted that for the first nine months of the current year, the physical volume index (PVI) for “Transport and Storage” reached 121.2%. The sector’s growth rate was driven by an overall increase in freight transportation, which exceeded 800 million tons — 9.1% higher than in the same period last year. In particular, road freight transport increased by 1.3%, pipeline transport by 15.9%, and rail transport by 10.5%. Passenger transportation across all modes of transport grew by 11.9%, reaching more than 1.4 billion passengers.
“The volume of transportation reflects the state of the economy and demonstrates growth in most indicators. The increase in freight transportation was driven by the development of key economic sectors — the mining and metallurgical complex, oil and gas industry, agriculture, construction, and trade. These industries are the main consumers of transport services and have shown positive growth dynamics over the reporting period,” Zhanibek Taizhanov emphasized.
He noted that growth was also recorded across all modes of transport in the regions. Significant growth was observed in Astana, where the volume of warehousing, auxiliary activities, and freight transportation by rail and road increased. In Kostanay region, growth was recorded in road freight and passenger rail transportation. A slight decline was noted in North Kazakhstan region and the city of Shymkent due to reduced activity in pipeline transport, postal, and courier services.
The Deputy Minister stressed that maintaining the growth rate of the transport sector until the end of the year will be ensured through the implementation of infrastructure projects, including:
Completion of all types of work on 7,000 km of roads, including 4,000 km of national and 3,000 km of local networks;
Completion of the construction of the Almaty bypass railway line;
Modernization of transport infrastructure;
Transition to electronic formats for international permit forms with member countries of the Organization of Turkic States (Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan), which will increase the number of cargo trips with these countries and reduce administrative costs;
Increase in export and transit transportation to China through the completion of double-track construction on the Dostyk–Mointy section.
