New Silk Road Expedition arrives in Almaty

The organizer is Kazakh Tourism on the request of the Tourism Industry Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The QazaqGeography Republican Public Association is realizing the route of the expedition “New Silk Road.” The expedition participants are experienced travelers, representatives of tour operators, foreign and Kazakhstan travel bloggers, as well as the team of National Geographic Russia.

The expedition on the New Silk Road route, which is taking place within the framework of the Uly Dala Eline Sayahat project, arrived in Almaty today. Recall that the VI route of the project was launched September 17. In 13 days the expedition members will visit the territory of Almaty, Zhambyl and Turkestan regions.

Uli Dala Eline Sayahat is the largest expedition to the regions of Kazakhstan, it is conducted along six routes with coverage of six tourist clusters. The purpose of the expedition is to study natural, historical, sacred sites for the development of new tourist routes, the development of domestic tourism and infrastructure, as well as the study of the native country. In addition, materials about the expedition will promote the popularization and increase of recognition of Kazakhstan as a tourist destination, and attracting the population to domestic tourism. As a result, new tourist routes will be formed, illustrated guidebooks, a high-quality photo and video bank will be created about natural sites of the country, information on their condition will be updated.

The first days of the expedition were held in the Almaty region, the participants visited the Kazakhstan-China border, where on the way to Khorgos visited a unique mosque in Zharkent. It was built without a single nail, while using the Tien-Shan spruce during construction. Then the participants visited one of the picturesque places of Kazakhstan — Kolsai gorge with its amazingly beautiful lakes and lake Kaindy.

The route of the expedition continued with a visit to the Aktau mountain, the Singing Barchan, the Shokan Ualikhanov spring, Talhiz hillfort. Also in the Almaty region, travelers were able to see the natural boundary of Tamgaly, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Today the expedition members visited the sights of the city of Almaty: the Medeo ice rink, Shymbulak and the Big Almaty Lake — these places constantly attract the attention of tourists. In addition, Kazakhstan's star Bakhyt Shadayeva met with the travelers.

"I am pleased to know that more and more attention has been paid to the development of domestic tourism in Kazakhstan. What are the beauties of our region worth, what a rich and picturesque nature we have! You managed to find a soft autumn in Almaty, a harvest time and wonderful autumn evenings. In addition to the expedition, the real professionals gathered their business. You are only in the middle of the road, and new discoveries await you. I hope that today will give a lot of new impressions. I wish you a happy journey in exploring the unknown Kazakhstan along the route of the New Silk Road," Bakhyt Shadayeva shared her impressions.

Then the participants will go to the city with a two thousand-year history — Ancient Taraz. It has played an important role in the Great Silk Road since ancient times. After exploring the attractions of Taraz and its environs, the project participants will head to one of the oldest reserves in Central Asia — Aksu-Zhabagly, which is located in the Zhambyl and Turkestan regions.

Then the participants will pass Sairam-Ugam national state natural park, located in the north-eastern part of the western Tien Shan, where they will see the lake Sairamsu, which is located at an altitude of 2350 metres. Also they will visit such archaeological and natural monuments of the Turkestan region as the fortress of Otyrar, mausoleum of Arystan-Bab, mausoleum of Khoja Ahmet Yassaui, Sauran mound and many others.

Kazakh Tourism National Company was established by the Government in July 2017. The main tasks are the promotion of the country's tourism potential abroad, as well as attracting investments in the tourist industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

QazaqGeography operates in five areas: geography, climate; environment, natural resources; biodiversity; tourism, travel, local history; historical and cultural heritage, ethnography. At present there are 11 representative offices in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
