Kazakhstan intends to expand cooperation with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development — Alikhan Smailov

Plans for implementation of investment projects in Kazakhstan for 2023 were discussed by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov and Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Central Asia Zhuzhanna Hargitay.

The parties exchanged views on the development of the banking sector, the energy sector in terms of commissioning new generating capacity, as well as the modernization of engineering infrastructure, including sewage and wastewater treatment facilities.

Alikhan Smailov stressed that Kazakhstan highly appreciates the strategic nature of interaction with the EBRD and the Bank's contribution to structural reforms.

"The Government is ready to actively work together on projects in the fields of green economy, transport and logistics, development of renewable energy and private business. We intend to expand our cooperation, both at the country and regional levels," he said.

He added that Kazakhstan pays special attention to decarbonization as a part of its economic development. In this connection a Strategy for Carbon Neutrality in Kazakhstan by 2060 was approved in February of this year.

In turn, Zhuzhanna Hargitay confirmed the focus of the EBRD to achieve concrete results in all existing and planned projects. At the same time, she stressed the Bank's readiness to intensify the development of new "green" initiatives in the priority sectors of the economy.
