Flood situation in several regions discussed in Government

Readiness of Almaty, Zhambyl, Zhetysu, Kyzylorda and Turkestan regions for the passage of the flooding period was considered at the meeting of a special Government Commission established by order of the Prime Minister, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar.

Representatives of regional akimats, Ministries for Emergency Situations, Industry and Infrastructural Development, Ecology and Natural Resources, Information and Social Development took part in the discussion.

According to the results of the meeting akimats of the regions were commissioned to ensure the activation of all necessary services and organizations, to prepare special equipment and materials for the effective passage of the flooding period, as well as to organize an appropriate coordination of emergency services.

At the same time, the Ministry of Ecology will coordinate safe passage of flood water in the Syrdarya and Ili river beds, determine permissible volumes of filling of reservoirs, including Koksaray, Kurtin, Bartogay, Bestiubinsk, Kyzylagash, Almaty, Ashibulak, Akeshki, and ensure proper control over them.

In parallel, blasting operations will be carried out on the Syrdarya River to minimize ice jams, and an ongoing exchange of information on water discharges on transboundary rivers will be organised with bordering countries.
