In 2014, Alstom signed a contract for the supply of 50 electric locomotives worth EUR 288 million, including 40 Prima T8 AZ8A heavy haul locomotives, which are manufactured in Nur-Sultan.

The Prima T8 locomotive is one of the most powerful electric locomotives in the world and is driving the development of regional rail traffic. In addition to electric locomotives, rails are also supplied to Azerbaijan.

Kazakhstan's railway network, with some 21,000 km, is the third largest network in the world and represents a significant market for maintenance work. At the same time, mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in 2021 amounted to $332.2 million, which is 3 times higher compared to 2020.

In general, exports from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan in 2021 increased 3.4 times and amounted to $287.9 ​​million. Imports to Kazakhstan from Azerbaijan in 2021 increased by 77.3% and amounted to $44.4 million.
