Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with experts from the economic sector. The discussion focused on issues of economic development, priority sectors of the economy, and external risks.
Opening the meeting, the Head of Government noted that ensuring sustainable economic growth and increasing the real well-being of the population remains a key priority. Olzhas Bektenov emphasized the importance of such meetings for comprehensive discussion of policy approaches and for receiving expert assessments and advice.
During the meeting, representatives of the expert community presented their views on key issues and directions for economic growth. Experts also shared forecasts on the pace of development of the national economy, taking into account the impact of global processes and the international economic environment. Proposals were voiced regarding priorities for sectoral modernization, the most pressing market demands, and the alignment of technological initiatives with these needs.
Comments and proposals were made by Zhaxybek Kulekeev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eurasian National University; Rasul Rysmbetov, Chairman of the Board of NAC Analytica; Zhanybek Aygazin, CEO of the Applied Economics Research Centre (AERC); Almas Chukin, Managing Partner of the investment company Visor; Anuar Buranbayev, Partner at the Center for Research and Consulting; Olzhas Khudaibergenov, Senior Partner at the private consulting company CSI; Askar Kysykov, Director of the TALAP Center for Applied Research Public Foundation; and Eldar Shamsutdinov, Head of the “Commentary” analytical group.
The participants discussed measures to combat inflation, expand domestic production, improve tax administration, generate electricity to support the development of artificial intelligence, and attract investment.
During the discussion of tax reform, the importance of a transition period was emphasized. In accordance with the Government’s decision, taxpayers who exceed the threshold for VAT registration will not be subject to administrative liability. Penalties and fines on taxes will be written off provided that the principal amount of tax debt is repaid by April 1, 2026.
Summing up the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of regular dialogue between the Government and the expert community and instructed the relevant state bodies to further elaborate on the proposals voiced during the discussion.
