Olzhas Bektenov checks implementation of President's instruction on reconstruction of Zhezkazgan-Kyzylorda motorway

During his working visit to Ulytau region, Prime Minister familiarised himself with the pace of construction of the Zhezkazgan-Kyzylorda motorway. Its restoration should give impetus to the development of a number of regions, including Ulytau region.

The Prime Minister was informed that today 4 contracting organisations have been identified for the project ‘Zhezkazgan-Kyzylorda’ (208 km). Contracts with them have already been signed. The cost of work on the Ulytau area is 108.6 billion tenge.

This year it is planned to carry out land acquisition for road construction, removal of the fertile soil layer, erection of shift camps and registration of quarries, as well as procurement of road-building materials.

Prime Minister stressed that the motorway ‘Zhezkazgan-Kyzylorda’ is of strategic importance. It will increase the transit potential of the region, thereby improving the economic development of the region and the living standards of its residents. The Ministry of Transport was instructed to take special control of the issue to ensure timely completion of the work.

It was also emphasised that when reconstructing the road, contractors should use specialists living in the Ulytau region, as well as companies with the necessary competencies and impeccable reputation. Domestic construction materials should be used.

Head of the Government dwelt separately on the need to ensure road safety during the reconstruction of the motorway.

In general, construction works on local roads are carried out in parallel in the region. In 2023 in the region more than 170 km have been reconstructed and repaired for a total amount of over 12 billion tenge. In the current year, work will continue to repair 196 kilometres of roads for a total amount of more than 16 billion tenge.

For reference: Within the framework of fulfilment of the Head of State's instruction to bring the entire republican road network to a normal condition by 2025, large-scale construction and repair of 12,000 km of roads in Kazakhstan has begun. Including 8 thousand kilometres of the republican network and 4 thousand kilometres of the local network. According to the Ministry of Transport, by the end of this year, 7 thousand kilometres will be completed.
