Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov presented state awards granted by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to workers of the mining and metallurgical sector on the occasion of their professional holiday – Metallurgist Day.

The mining and metallurgical complex is the foundation of industrial development. Over the years of independence, the sector has contributed to stable economic growth and the strengthening of social well-being. In 2024, its contribution to the country's economy amounted to 6.9%. Currently, more than 110,000 people are employed in the sector. Their daily labor supports the development of mechanical engineering, construction, the oil and gas sector, and energy.

Olzhas Bektenov emphasized that the development of the metallurgical industry remains among the priorities of the Government. Ongoing work on modernizing production, developing new deposits, and implementing modern technologies will continue.

Within the framework of the Year of Working Professions declared by the President, special attention is being paid to workers in the mining and metallurgical complex, including metallurgists. This year, for the first time, the Head of State established two new state awards – the honorary titles “Honored Miner of Kazakhstan” and “Honored Industrial Figure of Kazakhstan.”

In total, more than 600 workers in the mining and metallurgical industry – leading production workers and labor veterans across the country – have been recognized this year. State awards were presented to metallurgists by the Minister of Industry and Construction, and akims of the regions in the cities of Astana and Almaty, and the regions of Ulytau, Abai, Karaganda, Pavlodar, East Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda, Aktobe, and Kostanay.

Industry representatives expressed gratitude to the Head of State for the high recognition of their labor. Smelter of the Zhezkazgan Copper Smelter of “Kazakhmys Smelting” LLP, Bolat Aidabolov, noted that the award is recognition of the contribution of the entire sector, which is the foundation of the country’s economy. Flotation operator of “Kazakhmys Corporation” LLP, Gulbanu Zhumadildina, emphasized that the award is the result of collective work and thanked the President for his attention to the labor of metallurgists.
