"Taking into account mutual interests." Discussions between Alikhan Smailov and Mikhail Mishustin in Cholpon-Ata

On the sidelines of the ongoing meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Cholpon-Ata (Kyrgyzstan), the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, held a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Alikhan Smailov noted that Kazakhstan and Russia have a traditionally high level of bilateral interaction across the entire spectrum of interstate relations, supported by the intensity of meetings at the highest level.

"I believe that we should continue working together consistently, taking into account mutual interests," the Prime Minister said.

The Head of Government stressed that over the past 30 years a trusting and constructive dialogue had been established between the countries. Trade and economic cooperation are dynamically developing, interregional relations and contacts of business circles are strengthening.

"Russia is our main trade and economic partner. At the end of 2021 we will reach a record figure of $24.2 billion. first half of 2022 was marked by the growth of trade by 5%. At the end of the year we expect to maintain and develop the positive trend," Alikhan Smailov said.

At the same time, the Prime Minister added that the trade and economic agenda in the current realities is complemented by new items requiring prompt, balanced and mutually acceptable solutions.

"We should continue consistent joint work in a pragmatic and trusting manner," Alikhan Smailov stressed.

In turn, Mikhail Mishustin noted that Russia cherishes friendly relations and cooperation with Kazakhstan.

"We see good prospects for the implementation of joint import substitution programs. There are conditions for launching new strategic projects in areas such as industry, energy, mechanical engineering, transport infrastructure, peaceful atom, and digitalization. These topics are on our permanent agenda," Mikhail Mishustin said.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed the supply of products necessary for industrial cooperation, transit of Kazakhstani raw materials, as well as unimpeded export of goods.

In addition, they considered the gasification of northern and eastern regions of Kazakhstan, the activities of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium and the Astrakhan-Mangyshlak water pipeline.
