Holding Expo-2017 unlocked the potential of national science — S. Rakhimbekova

During the briefing held in the press center of the Government, S. Rakhimbekova, head of the Commission on Ecology of the Public Council under the Ministry of Energy, spoke about the impact of the International Exhibition Expo-2017 on the implementation of green technologies in Kazakhstan.

"Holding Expo-2017 allowed to concentrate the best technologies of the world, and also opened the potential of domestic science," Saltanat Rakhimbekova said.

According to her, the strategic tasks specified in the field of energy conservation and energy efficiency enabled to identify the state policy and take the necessary measures. For example, the state energy registry has been introduced, the concept of energy service contracts, energy audits at enterprises, etc. have been added to the legislation.

S. Rakhimbekova noted that today the Coalition for Green Economy and G-global Development for supporting the holding of the international exhibition and assisting the implementation of the Concept for the Transition of Kazakhstan to a Green Economy and the Partnership Program “Green Bridge” implemented a large portfolio of green initiatives and projects. In general, all this work is aimed at popularizing alternative technologies, supporting domestic innovators and scientists, creating demonstration sites.

She also noted that the economy of Kazakhstan has a great potential for energy saving and through the implementation of energy-saving and energy-efficient measures it is possible to reduce resource consumption only in the housing and communal services sector up to 40%.

As an example, she mentioned the center "Arnasay" on the territory of which 35 green technologies have already been tested, as well as the project implemented in 2014 in the MPI “Atyrau Su Arnasy” on 100% modernization of the pump park.

It is worth noting that earlier the agreement on cooperation was signed between the MID RK and the Fund “Damu” in providing support measures to entrepreneurs involved in energy saving issues with the financial support of the United Nations Development Program in Kazakhstan.

"Based on the above, we believe that to preserve the legacy of Expo-2017, it is necessary to develop a Roadmap for the active introduction of green technologies into the economy of our country," S. Rakhimbekova concluded.
