Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of National Economy Nurlan Baibazarov held the 8th meeting of the Coordinating Council on Sustainable Development Goals with the participation of the leadership of central government agencies and representatives of the UN, UNDP and the European Union.
Nurlan Baybazarov noted that partnership and effective interaction have an important role for the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
"Last September, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the UN Summit on Sustainable Development Goals. In his speech, the President noted that achieving the SDGs is a national priority for us. Therefore, we are always open for co-operation and highly appreciate the support of our international partners," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Nurlan Baibazarov also said that the implementation of the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals is aimed at improving the quality of life of the population, adopting the best international standards, improving the international image of our country.
During their speeches, foreign partners expressed support for the reforms carried out in the country and voiced recommendations for further development of key areas of socio-economic sphere.
As a result of the discussion, the Coordinating Council approved the updated List of National Indicators of Sustainable Development Goals until 2030 of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda and approved the Plan of preparation of the voluntary national review of 2025.
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister instructed interested government agencies and organisations to ensure the implementation of national SDG indicators in the documents of the State Planning System, as well as to timely and qualitatively implement the activities of the Plan for the preparation of the Voluntary National Review.
For reference: The Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to eradicate poverty and inequality, protect the environment, and ensure prosperity of the world's population. A total of 17 areas have been defined, the realisation of which can lead to the development of the main spheres of the economy and social life. Monitoring of the achievement of the SDGs is under constant control of the UN representatives and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
