Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov presented the Government's plans for the development of the energy sector at the enlarged Government session chaired by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Alikhan Smailov noted that the "Tariff in Exchange for Investments" programme being developed will make it possible to reduce the depreciation of electricity, heat and engineering networks in the republic by 20 percentage points. A total of 3.8 trillion tenge is needed to repair more than 134,000 km of engineering networks, he said. The relevant approaches will be approved as early as this week.

As a result, this will reduce the number of accidents, blackouts and technical losses of heat, improving the quality and reliability of the services provided. At the same time, attention will be paid to protection of socially vulnerable population groups.

In addition, a risk management system and an independent technical audit institute will be introduced, and the status of existing assets will be digitised and analysed as part of enhanced control. At the same time, there are plans to increase the transparency of procurement procedures, as well as the accountability of managers of natural monopolies.
