There is no time: First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar instructs to protect Kyzylzhar Su LLP strategic facility in Petropavlovsk from possible waterlogging

As part of the work on flood control, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar together with Akim of North Kazakhstan region Gauez Nurmukhambetov inspected the dams of Teplichnoye village and Kozhevenny settlement, pumping station of the 1st and 2nd lift of drinking water of Kyzylzhar Su LLP. During the inspection Roman Sklyar noted the importance of work to strengthen existing dams and increase their length, taking into account the emerging flood situation, providing special equipment and bags.

Currently, engineering works are being carried out to protect pumping stations of Kyzylzhar Su LLP, which provide drinking water to the population of the regional centre, from flooding. The pace of work remains high and is adjusted depending on the flood situation.

During the visit to the Petropavlovsk hydrosystem, First Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that there is no more time before the arrival of water.

"Today during the diversions of flood-prone areas a number of issues that need to be urgently addressed have been considered. First of all, it is an increase in the number of equipment and strengthening of blocking to carry out flood control measures. We are talking about physical protection of infrastructure facilities and settlements. We have 7 to 8 days before the arrival of big water. As you know, the overflows at the Sergeevskoye reservoir are now more than 3 metres. It is expected to set an anti-record for overflow, it is about 4 metres. Much more water will come than in 2017. Therefore, now all forces and means should be directed to solve these issues. Today additionally all road construction companies have temporarily suspended work at the facilities and we will work with the population on flood control measures," Roman Sklyar said.

The most difficult situation is in 8 districts out of 13, snow coverage is from 38% to 50% and there is a threat of flooding of 262 settlements. 48 overflows have been registered on the region's motorways. 7 sections of the roadbed on the roads of regional and republican importance have been opened.

Water pumping works are underway, 155 km of aryks have been cleaned, 96.6 km of canals have been widened and deepened, 55 thousand pieces of sackcloth have been prepared, 23 thousand pieces have been laid. 540 people and 233 units of equipment have been involved, life support facilities are functioning in normal mode.

Following the results of the diversions Roman Sklyar emphasised that the situation is under control.

"We need to complete all the work in 3-4 days and further look at other dangerous areas that may be flooded," First Deputy Prime Minister concluded.

It should be reminded that on 6 April this year on the instructions of the Head of State Roman Sklyar, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, arrived in the North Kazakhstan region to coordinate the work to combat floods.
