Government stimulus measures to increase marketable gas production in Kazakhstan

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a meeting on the comprehensive development of the country's gas industry on Wednesday, Oct. 12. It was attended by First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar, First Vice Minister of Energy Murat Zhurebekov and Chairman of the Board of NC QazaqGaz JSC Sanzhar Zharkeshov.

The meeting reviewed the forecast of gas supply until 2030, as well as the measures to stimulate the development of new gas fields and increase the production of commercial gas.

Thus, on the instructions of the head of state an improved model subsoil use contract will be introduced providing for a number of regulatory and fiscal preferences. This will boost the implementation of existing and prospective projects in the gas industry, as well as increase the resource base of marketable gas by at least 7.7 billion m3.

At the same time, the Government is working out the issue of incentive prices for the purchase of gas, which will provide an additional increase in its production in the amount from 1 billion m3 to 3 billion m3.

Prime Minister approved the approaches of the Ministry of Energy and QazaqGaz to the development of the country's resource base, and instructed to intensify comprehensive work in this area.

In addition, issues of gasification of northern and eastern regions of the country were discussed. Alikhan Smailov instructed to work in detail on possible technical options and to prepare a corresponding road map.
