July 10 at the meeting of the Government chaired by the Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, the results of socio-economic development for the six months of 2018 were considered.

According to the Vice Minister for Investments and Development Kairbek Uskenbayev, in the first half of this year the volume of industrial production grew by 5.2%, including mining — by 5.5% and processing — by 5.2%. The increase in industrial production is observed in 14 regions.

"In the manufacturing industry, there is a 3.4% growth in the metallurgical industry (iron and steel — by 5%, non-ferrous metals — by 2.1%), in the chemical industry — by 11%, in machine building — by 17.2%, in construction materials — by 2.2%, in light industry — by 2.3%," the vice minister said.

Uskenbayev noted that the preservation of prices for basic base metals at the level of last year favorably affects production volumes. According to the transport complex, the target indicator was achieved, the IFO for the period January-June was 104.9% (plan for 2018 — 104.8%).

According to the Ministry for Investments and Development, in the first half of the year the total volume of container transportation through Kazakhstan amounted to 206 thousand containers and grew by 40% compared to the same period last year.

"In the PRC – EU – PRC direction this indicator amounted to 101 thousand containers and grew by 38% compared to the same period last year," Uskenbaev said.

The index of physical volume for construction was 103.8%. The main share of the positive rate is in the North-Kazakhstan (167.1%) and East Kazakhstan (139.8%) regions.

"So, 513.4 billion tenge was invested in housing construction, which is 28.4% higher than last year's level. Nearly 5.8 million square meters of housing were put into operation (which is 104.8% compared to the same period in 2017). The percentage of housing construction to the annual plan was 47% with a plan of 12.1 million m². Altogether, 49,667 apartments were commissioned in the republic, of which 20,532 individual houses," Uskenbayev summarized, stressing that in general the country will fulfill its annual target figure.
