Bakytzhan Sagintayev discusses issues of improving health care system with WHO Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus

October 24 in Astana, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with the Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Ghebreyesus, who arrived in Kazakhstan to participate in the Global Conference on Primary Health Care to be held in Astana from 25 to 26 October 2018.

The issues of interaction and the development of common approaches to the development of health systems in the world, improving the quality and accessibility of medical services and education, as well as the introduction of modern digital technologies in the framework of improving the health infrastructure were discussed at the meeting.

Sagintayev thanked Mr. Ghebreyesus for his support in organizing the Global Conference dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Almaty Declaration on Primary Health Care and expressed the hope that an important final document of no less importance would be adopted.

In 1978, the Alma-Ata Declaration of Primary Health Care was adopted in Alma-Ata, which had a global impact on health development around the world. Thanks to this large-scale event, Kazakhstan gained recognition at the level of world public health.

Kazakhstan joined the World Health Organization on August 19, 1992, becoming the 180th member state of this organization. Geographically, Kazakhstan belongs to the WHO European Region. Today, 194 states are members of WHO.

Currently, Kazakhstan and WHO have developed strong partnerships. Within the framework of WHO, measures were taken to combat noncommunicable and infectious diseases, especially poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, and the active promotion of international health regulations. WHO provides ongoing technical and advisory support to Kazakhstan in the implementation of state policy on the protection and promotion of maternal and child health, on the prevention and control of tuberculosis and HIV / AIDS, on improving sanitary services, and so on. A lot of work is being done to implement the health-related sustainable development goals.
