Yermek Kosherbayev

He was born on May 2, 1965, in Almaty.

In 1988, he graduated from Kirov Kazakh State University with a degree in History (with a specialization in teaching in a foreign language). In 1993, he graduated from the Diplomatic Academy of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a degree in International Relations and Foreign Policy.

He began his professional career in 1988 as a history teacher at Secondary School No. 170 in Almaty.

From 1988 to 1991, he was Senior Inspector for Classified Record Keeping, Second Secretary, First Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kazakh SSR, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kazakh SSR.

From 1993 to 1994, he was First Secretary, Head of the Department of the State Protocol Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 1994 to 1996, he was Consultant of the International Department of the Apparatus of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Acting Head of the Protocol Service of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 1996 to 1997, he was First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Swiss Confederation.

In 1997, he was Head of the Asian Security Division, Department of Multilateral Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 1997 to 1999, he was Assistant to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From January to October 2000, he was Deputy Director, First Deputy Director of the Public Foundation “Nursultan Nazarbayev Education Fund”.

From 2000 to 2001, he was Head of the Press Service, Head of the Apparatus of the President of JSC NC “KazTransOil”.

From 2001 to 2003, he was Head of the Apparatus, Advisor to the First Vice President, Head of the Apparatus of the President of JSC NC “KazMunayGas”.

From 2003 to 2004, he was General Director of JSC “Rauan Media Group”.

From May to August 2004, he was First Deputy Head of the Central Apparatus of the Republican Political Party “Otan”.

From 2004 to 2005, he was Head of the Apparatus of the President of JSC “KazMunayGas”.

From 2005 to 2006, he was First Deputy Executive Director of the Association of Legal Entities “National Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers of Kazakhstan ‘Atameken’”.

From 2006 to 2007, he was Head of the Central Apparatus of the Republican Political Party “Otan”.

From January to June 2007, he was Director of LLP “Financial and Industrial Group ‘Berkut’”.

From 2007 to 2008, he was Executive Director of the Association of Legal Entities “Kazakhstan Association of Oil, Gas and Energy Sector Organizations ‘KazEnergy’”.

From 2008 to 2009, he was General Director of JSC “Rauan Media Group”.

From 2009 to 2010, he was Chairman of the Board of JSC “National Company Social and Entrepreneurial Corporation Yertis”.

From 2010 to 2014, he was Deputy, First Deputy Akim of East Kazakhstan Region.

From 2014 to 2016, he was Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 2016 to 2018, he was Responsible Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 2018 to 2019, he was Responsible Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 2019 to 2020, he was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 2020 to 2023, he was Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation.

From 2023 to 2025, he was Akim of East Kazakhstan Region.

From February to September 2025, he was Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Since September 26, 2025, By Decree of the Head of State, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
