Nurlan Yermekbayev appointed minister of defense of Kazakhstan

August 7, 2018, the President of Kazakhstan signed a Decree on the appointment of Nurlan Yermekbayev to the post of the minister of defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This was reported by the press service of Akorda.

"To appoint Yermekbayev Nurlan Bayuzakovich as minister of defense of Kazakhstan, dismissing him as assistant to the President – secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the Decree said.

It should be noted that by the Decree of the Head of State, Saken Zhasuzakov was relieved of his post as minister of defense in connection with his transfer to another job. Thus, by order of the Head of State Saken Zhasuzakov was appointed head of the National University of Defense named after the First President of Kazakhstan – Elbasy. Earlier, the head of the University was Askhat Ryspaev, who was dismissed from his post by the Order of the Head of State.

Nurlan Yermekbayev was born January 1, 1963, in Shymkent.

In 1986, he graduated with honors from the Military Red Banner Institute of the USSR Ministry of Defense, as an officer with knowledge of Chinese and English. In 1996, he graduated from the Kazakh State Architecture and Construction Academy with a degree in engineering and economics. In different years he worked in commercial enterprises, the structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Nurlan Yermekbayev served as advisor to the President of Kazakhstan —  at the Foreign Policy Center of the Presidential Administration (2006-2007), vice minister of foreign affairs (2007-2010), assistant to the President (2010-2012), ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan in the People's Republic of China, concurrently in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (2012-2014), assistant to the President —  Secretary of the Security Council (2014-2016), Minister of Religious Affairs and Civil Society (2016-April 2018).

From April 2018 to the present, he held the post of assistant to the President – Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
