In Ukimet Uyi Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with the Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Monique Eloit.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of the veterinary system of Kazakhstan, expansion of the functions of the OIE Sub Regional FMD (foot and mouth disease) coordination Unit Office in Astana, and the creation of a vaccine against foot and mouth disease in this office.
Following the discussion, the sides agreed on further cooperation on developing common approaches and strategies to combat transboundary diseases at the regional level, as well as to strengthen the cooperation of veterinary services of Central Asian countries to fight against transboundary diseases, with the active assistance of OIE experts.

The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) is one of the oldest intergovernmental organizations in the world, which today has 180 member countries, divided into five regions. As a result of cooperation with the organization, Kazakhstan received the official status of a zone free from foot and mouth disease without vaccination for nine regions and a zone free from foot and mouth disease with vaccination in five regions. Obtaining the official status of the OIE for foot and mouth disease increases the attractiveness of the country in the eyes of potential and existing investors and partners, as well as the level of confidence in the safety of livestock products produced in the country.
