Today, within the framework of the OECD Eurasian Week 2017, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with OECD Secretary-General, Angel Gurria and heads of delegations of the forum participants.
During the meeting, it was noted that since 2015, Kazakhstan and OECD have entered a phase of active interaction within the framework of the signed Country Program of Cooperation, which is a qualitatively new platform for exchanging experience. This year, the organization approved the extension of the program until 2018.
The parties discussed the effectiveness of the Action Plan to increase the level of participation of the state bodies of Kazakhstan in the activities of OECD committees and working groups. It was noted that Kazakhstan conducts qualitative work to upgrade its status to the level of "Participant" in the Committee for Educational Policy and the level of "Associate Member" in the Committee on Steel.
In addition, the issue of Kazakhstan's joining the OECD Competition Committee as a full member in 2019-2020 was discussed. It was noted that Kazakhstani experts are currently actively working on the implementation of all OECD recommendations on competition issues.
Following the meeting, the sides expressed their readiness to continue further close cooperation.
For reference:
In March 2015, an Agreement was signed with the OECD on conducting an “Antimonopoly Law and Policy Review in the Republic of Kazakhstan”. June 17, 2016, due to positive changes in the antimonopoly legislation, Kazakhstan entered the OECD Competition Committee as a participant.
It should be reminded that the day before, Bakytzhan Sagintayev and Angel Gurria held negotiations in Astana, during which urgent issues of expanding cooperation with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development were discussed.
