Bakytzhan Sagintayev meets with representatives of ArcelorMittal

Today in Astana, the Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with representatives of ArcelorMittal headed by Vice President Javier Lasso Pena.

During the meeting, current issues of ArcelorMittal's activities in Kazakhstan were discussed, as well as some aspects of steel exports to world markets.

For reference: ArcelorMittal is the largest metallurgical company in the world. It is registered in Luxembourg, where the headquarters of the company is located. It was formed in 2006 by merging the Luxembourgian company Arcelor and the Indian Mittal Steel, owned by the Indian businessperson, Lakshmi Mittal. After the merger, the company's production capacity was 420 million tons per year.

In Kazakhstan, the company is owned by ArcelorMittal Temirtau, which includes the Karaganda Metallurgical Plant, eight coalmines, two power plants, the Lisakovskoye Ore Mining and Processing Plant, ferromanganese mines and auxiliary enterprises. It was established in 1995 as Ispat Karmet JSC by a purchase at a closed tender for the privatization of the Karaganda Metallurgical Combine. In December 2004, Ispat Karmet JSC was re-registered in JSC Mittal Steel Temirtau, and since September 6, 2007, in JSC ArcelorMittal Temirtau.
